Jim Olds is University Professor of Neuroscience and Public Policy at George Mason University. He served for the last three years as head of the Biological Sciences Directorate at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), responsible for an annual budget of $750M. Olds’ former directorate funds the majority of non-biomedical research at America’s research institutions. While there, he was also NSF lead for President Obama’s White House BRAIN project, deputy lead for NSF on Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot and co-chaired the White House Life Sciences Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council.

Insights will introduce Charlottesville bioscience leaders to global ideas and contacts, and inform influential guests of the dynamic Charlottesville biohub. Insights is a year long, quarterly series hosted at i.Lab at UVA and other prominent sites on Grounds. The focus of each event will be a special guest - a nationally prominent leader of bioscience innovation and entrepreneurship from outside Charlottesville.

From 4:00 - 5:15 there will be a private reception, limited to the first 25 registrants.  Immediately following will be public networking from 5:30-7:30, open to the entire bioscience community.

There is a suggested minimum donation of $25 per person. This donation will be used to support STEM education and STEM teacher enrichment statewide through the Virginia Bio Foundation.  For more information about the Foundation, click here.
