In this seminar, Bob Smith will lead the audience through the fundamentals ofLean Startup, which provides a scientific approach to creating and managing a new business. The Lean Startup method teaches how to drive a startup, how to steer, when to turn, and when to persevere and grow a business with maximum acceleration. It is a principled approach to new product development and business development.

 

Frank Toth brings decades of acquisition/purchasing experience to his position as a procurement counselor. He will briefly explain his experience with federal procurement and how he and his colleagues at PTAP can assist you.

Bob Smith has 30+ years of experience in innovation and entrepreneurship. He is currently Chairman of CollegeFactual.com, a leading college rankings website. He's held senior management positions at Congressional Quarterly and America Online in sales, marketing and new product development and was the founder and CEO of the first nation-wide online city guide, Digital City. As an executive, angel investor and advisor he has helped companies in e-commerce, e-government, identity management, content publishing, geospatial analytics, data science and local media go from launch through to favorable exits.

 

Bob is currently the Director of the Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP), a program funded by the commonwealth of Virginia and administered by George Mason University and Small Business Development Center Network. Here he helps researchers, inventors and technology startups to develop their technology commercialization and technology business startup efforts. He's also an instructor with the NSF's DC I-Corp Node, and co-director of the Fed Tech program, which uses Lean Startup methods to assist inventors from government labs to explore the commercial viability of their inventions. He received a BA from USC and his MBA from GWU. He is a veteran of the US Navy.

 

Frank Toth,GMU Procurement Technical Assistance Program, Procurement Counselor,brings decades of acquisition / purchasing experience to his position as a Procurement Counselor. While on active duty with the US Air Force and as a civil service employee at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio,Frank's responsibilities continually evolved as Contracting Officer for research and development, aircraft procurement, and Foreign Military Sales to European and Middle Eastern military allies.On his promotion to GSA, he was team leader for the transition of the Federal Procurement Data System from DOD to GSA, the National Director of Public Buildings Service Contract Management Division, and the National Director of the Federal Protective Service.Acquisition and purchasing experience with Bethlehem Steel Corporation and Cornell University Aeronautical Test Laboratory rounded out his goal to experience, grow and share entrepreneurial knowledge
