Executive Director

Mark A. Herzog, the executive director of the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VABIO), is responsible for leading the premier statewide trade group that promotes the considerable scientific and economic impact of the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Mark is the secretary and co-founder of the Virginia Bioscience Foundation and former chairman of the Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA), an international body of all the state bioscience associations in the United States and Canada. Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell named Mark in 2011 to serve as a member of the Virginia Workforce Council and, in 2010, as a member of the Governor’s Economic Development and Job Creation Commission. He is also currently a member of the board of the Virginia Society of Association Executives, a member of the National Advisory Council of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and is an officer of the Mid-Atlantic Bio Coalition.

In 2010, Mark received the IBM Community Catalyst Award from the Greater Richmond Technology Council. In 2007, initiatives he helped launch won awards for excellence from the State Science and Technology Institute (SSTI) and the Southern Growth Policies Board. He was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” for 2007 in the Greater Richmond region by Style Weekly magazine.

Mark is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. He is married and resides with his family in Henrico County, Virginia.
