Fairfax County Accepts 2010 VEDA Award For Business Attraction

The Virginia Economic Developers Association (VEDA) presented a 2010 Community Economic Development Award to Fairfax County in recognition of its success in business attraction. VEDA announced its 2010 awards March 12 at its annual spring conference in Williamsburg. Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) accepted the award.

The VEDA awards are designed to recognize outstanding communities in Virginia for their efforts in advancing economic viability through economic and community development programs. Fairfax County won in the category for communities with more than 100,000 residents. VEDA is following the format developed by the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC) and will submit its eligible winners to SEDC to be considered by that organization for a southern states regional award.

The FCEDA promotes Fairfax County as one of the world’s best business locations. In the last two years Volkswagen Group of America, CSC (formerly Computer Sciences Corporation), Google, Hilton Worldwide, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and the Ignite Institute have announced they would locate their corporate headquarters in the county.

“The FCEDA has one of the most comprehensive and aggressive business attraction programs in the world in order to make Fairfax County a tremendous place to work and to support the great quality of life here,” Gordon said. “Recognition of those efforts by our counterpart organizations around the Commonwealth is a great honor.”
