Park Names Carrie Roth as Interim Leader

The Virginia Bio∙Technology Research Park Authority and Corporation Boards have announced the appointment of Carrie Cantrell Roth as Interim Executive Director of the Virginia Bio∙Technology Research Park, effective December 4, 2013,
Roth has held the position of Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade for Governor Bob McDonnell since 2010. She will serve in an interim capacity while a national search is conducted to fill the permanent position.
Robert T. Skunda, President and CEO of the Virginia Bio∙Technology Research Park since 1997, announced earlier this year that he will step down on December 31st at which time he will become president emeritus. He will continue to assist the boards and future leadership with the transition, as well as any special projects related to continued development of the research park.
Roth was appointed by Governor Bob McDonnell as Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade in 2010, bringing over 20 years of broad experience in government, non-profit organizations and the private sector to the position. She helped lead the successful effort before the General Assembly to provide over $113 million in new economic development funding – including over $57 million to support Virginia’s innovation economy. In addition, she worked with the technology community and the Virginia General Assembly to bring new tools to encourage entrepreneurship based on best practices from across the country.
The search for the next President and CEO of the Virginia Bio∙Technology Research Park is underway. Information on the progress of the search will be published on the Park’s website as it is available.
