Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms' has initiated a call to explore the City's and surrounding regions' potential to develop a strategic hub for biotech or biosciences (also termed healthcare) by utilizing the critical and considerable resources available in Virginia Beach and regionally. The primary intent of potentially establishing this hub is to create jobs, align resources and maximize the area's potential in terms of strategic and financial growth and to develop a national presence.
The Virginia Beach Bio-medical and Healthcare Task Force and Advisory Committee will be chaired by Tom Frantz, CEO, Williams Mullen, and co-chaired by Rony Thomas, CEO, LifeNet Health. The task force has been commissioned by the Mayor to engage other leaders to assess feasibility of the opportunity.
The exciting mission of the Task Force is to develop a plan for City Council's approval, for a bio-medical and healthcare hub in the Princess Anne Commons area of Virginia Beach encompassing and developing the research, resources and opportunities of universities, hospitals and healthcare enterprises to create jobs and economic growth in Virginia Beach, the region, and the Commonwealth.
