The Heritage Provider Network, the National Institutes of Health and Center for Advancing Innovation have partnered to create a "first of a kind" Brain Challenge. The Challenge will feature 18-20 brain related inventions that have commercial viability and are important to public health. The primary goal of the Challenge is to stimulate the creation of start-up businesses based upon these inventions.
With all of the great brain resources in Virginia, the opportunity exists to for both team formation, and for qualified individuals to assist as Judges for the challenge; this would take 7 hours per invention in the April 2015 timeframe (judges are expected to judge only one invention). Judges are currently being recruited. Interested parties should contact Rosemarie Truman at email@example.com.
The previous Breast Cancer challenge exceeded expectations and received mentions from the White House, an exclusive from Nature Magazine and several leading media outlets. More than 1,000 people from around the world are expected to participate. This challenge will accelerate the commercialization of Federal agency brain-related inventions, spur economic growth, and provide Universities a platform to further develop their entrepreneurship-learning portfolio. The application period will begin on August 1, 2014. For more information visit http://www.brainstartupchallenge.org.
