Aperiomics and ResourcePath Create Biotech Strategic Partnership for Pathogen Testing Services
Monday, December 7, 2015
Aperiomics and ResourcePath, have entered a strategic partnership that is expected to support significant and rapid growth for each of these Virginia-based biotech companies. In a mutually beneficial exchange, ResourcePath supplies next-generation sequencing services and Aperiomics provides complex data analysis and access to cutting edge bioinformatics technology.
The companies share space in Sterling, VA, allowing Aperiomics to have the benefit of customized in-house lab resources without the expense and time required to build out its own facilities and obtain certifications. ResourcePath, founded by experienced pathologists, is a CLIA accredited laboratory with the capacity to provide rapid, tailored genome sequencing to support both research and clinical needs. Aperiomics represents a ready market for their services with its customer pipeline and portfolio of projects already in development.
ResourcePath founder Ashley Hill, MD, observes that it’s costly to conduct research in traditional ways, especially in areas like Washington, DC, where funding for healthcare and research is limited. An entrepreneurial partnership such as the one with Aperiomics with shared space, expertise, and equipment can reduce much of the costly overhead that accompanies the typical hospital or university setting. As a result, the time and cost of taking an idea to a discovery or diagnostic test can be significantly reduced.
Aperiomics CEO Crystal Icenhour, PhD, will launch a new sales and marketing campaign in January focusing on tick-borne disease such as Lyme disease, boosted by the new relationship with ResourcePath, and supported by the recent addition of talented new staff members. The new marketing effort will include attendance at the Biotech Showcase 2016 in San Francisco and a presence in Dubai at the Arab Health conference in January. Recently, Aperiomics received a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research Award from the National Science Foundation that is meant to help companies bring their product or service to market.
”I am excited to announce the strategic relationship Aperiomics has formed with ResourcePath. This relationship brings valuable infrastructure and expertise to both companies, strengthening each in our respective markets. Ultimately, both companies will make valuable contributions to public and clinical health” comments Dr. Icenhour.
As a physician with expertise in pediatric pathology, Dr. Hill has a personal interest in using genomic sequencing to help kids and families dealing with rare diseases, including using genetics to predict which children would benefit from screening for early detection of disease or to design safer and more effective personalized therapies for their cancers.
“Many scientists with great ideas don’t necessarily have access to top tier sequencing core facilities or pathologist experts. We hope that ResourcePath fills an important need for these scientists who may be searching for the genetic basis of a rare disease or on the cusp of a cure for a deadly disease.”
