Tuesday, December 22, 2015
George Mason University and Inova are combining their extensive and complementary resources to conduct personalized medicine research. This work will lead to new patient cures and treatments for a variety of diseases and groundbreaking disease prevention strategies.
These discoveries will also generate new business opportunities, creating new companies and jobs and contributing to a robust economy focused on biomedical research, personalized medicine and health care.
The specific research collaboration projects includes ones for cancer, heart disease and metabolic diseases.
The structure of the partnership will have four key components: a joint steering board, fellowship program and research innovation centers, plus research driven education programs and shared facilities such as an Inova-Mason Proteomics Center. There will also be The Mason-Inova Institute for Personalized Medicine Public Policy and Ethics that will address public policy and ethical issues related to personalized medicine.
