The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released its report, Genetically Engineered Crops: Experiences and Prospects, that suggests there is no evidence that foods from genetically engineered crops are less safe than foods from non-genetically engineered crops.

Through a series of open meetings and webinars, which generated input from both opponents and proponents of the technology, the Committee upheld its promise to embrace open engagement.

The study committee stated that the studies conducted in animals, including extensive research about the chemical composition found on genetically modified food available on the market revealed no differences that could suggest an increased threat to human safety and health compared to the consumption of non genetically modified food.

In addition to this, the report also found no indication of environmental concerns that can be credited to the genetically modified food, although it took note of the increasing problem regarding pesticide resistance.
