Sanyal Biotechnology Relocating to Virginia Beach

Sanyal Biotechnology, a Richmond-based company that provides small animal models, will relocate its headquarters to Virginia Beach in July 2016. The company will take over space at Tidewater Community College’s Wet Lab, pending approval from the Virginia Beach Development Authority, which will also vote on a $25,000 grant for Sanyal.
Rebecca Caffrey, the CEO and founder of Sanyal, said that if the company continues to meet its goals for growth, it could move to the biomedical park later on. Being near the hub is a perk of moving to Virginia Beach, she said.
“The opportunity to get in on the ground floor and participate in that process is a good thing,” Caffrey said.
Sanyal works with a special strain of mice for clinical trials related to fatty liver disease. The company entered an agreement with Eastern Virginia Medical School in February and moved its mice colony there in April.
“It’s just been such a good experience,” Caffrey said.
While the company will move to Virginia Beach, Arun J. Sanyal, who developed the mice, will remain at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
