Virginia Bioscience Podcast: Dietrich Stephan, CEO of the Ignite Institute
This edition of the Virginia Bioscience Podcast features a presentation by Dr. Dietrich Stephan, the CEO of the Ignite Institute for Individualized Health. The program was recorded December 17, 2009 at the Virginia Bioscience Business Roundtable, in Richmond. The event, sponsored by the Virginia Biotechnology Association and numerous national and statewide partners, was focused on the latest developments in the Virginia bioscience industry.
Dr. Stephan, a human geneticist, formerly served as the deputy director of discovery research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, known as “T-Gen”, in Arizona and was a co-founder and the former chief scientific officer of Navigenics, a personalized genetic testing company. He received his B.S. in Biology/Biochemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991. He went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Human Molecular Genetics in 1996 from the University of Pittsburgh. Stephan completed a fellowship in 1999 at the National Human Genome Research Institute.
The Ignite Institute, to be located in Fairfax County, Virginia, will be a 300,000 square foot, $245 million personalized medicine institute that will employ more than 500 scientists by the time it is completed.
