Christopher Newport University
Biotechnology & Management Program


The Biotechnology & Management program at Christopher Newport University combines a Bachelor of Science in one of the five life science programs (cellular, molecular and physiological biology; environmental biology; organismal biology; biochemistry; or neuroscience) with a minor in Business Administration, which includes math, computer science, managerial finance and entrepreneurship. Graduates of this program will have the strength of a science background with the business acumen to deliver the innovative new products and technologies to the market. Students will also attend a focused speaker series each year and complete a biotech internship.

Biotechnology Master's Program

This accelerated 16-month master’s program provides hands-on training in state-of-the-art molecular, genomic, proteomic, cellular and imaging techniques, biomedical sciences ‌and laboratory research design.  Students complete six months of internship at one of our biotechnology industry partners and/or in an EVMS research or core laboratory.

The Biology Department at James Madison University offers a cross-disciplinary B.S. degree program in biotechnology. Students graduating from this program are prepared to enter the biotechnology workforce, or to pursue advanced education in medical, agricultural, or industrial biotechnology. To complement this undergraduate experience, they seek internship opportunities for their students.

This rigorous two-year degree requires coursework in math, writing, inorganic chemistry, cell biology, genetics, ethics, independent research, and biotechnology.  While the program does not require an internship, we aim to connect the most engaged and entrepreneurial students when an internship matches their knowledge and interests.
