From Concept to Company – VCU Commercialization Fund takes entrepreneurs to the next level

In 2015 VCU expanded it’s Quest Innovation Fund to include funds for “proof of concept” to help entrepreneurs to advance VCU inventions to a more mature stage and thus improve their chances of being out-licensed and brought to market.  Sometimes, these early stage inventions only need a small investment for prototype development and testing or animal studies to de-risk their research.  We will touch base with Ivelina Metcheva, Executive Director of VCU Innovation Gateway, who manages the fund, along with Dr. Richard Marconi, and Dr. Sudha Jayaraman to see how the fund has helped advance their technologies.

Dr. Marconi has successfully created a Lyme disease vaccine for canines and is currently working on a human vaccine.

Dr. Jayaraman is working on a new method for medication reconciliation in trauma and emergency medicine settings
