The Virginia Bioscience Health Research Corporation (VBHRC) has released a Request for Applications for annual grants to help accelerate translational research and commercialization of life science technologies in the Commonwealth through collaborations between Virginia research universities and industry.  Grants will be awarded for $200,000 - $800,000 annually.

"If you or your colleagues are working on translational research projects that fit the criteria outlined in the Request for Application we encourage you to apply," said Mike Grisham, President and CEO of VBHRC.

VBHRC will begin evaluation of grant applications in September with the goal of making initial awards in October. There will then be an ongoing process to review applications and make awards on a frequent basis but no less than quarterly.

The Virginia Biosciences Health Research Corporation (VBHRC) is funded at $5 million for 2013-2014 from the Virginia General Assembly’s General Fund and five founding research universities: Eastern Virginia Medical School, George Mason University, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The VBHRC mission is to improve human health by accelerating translational research through collaborations between Virginia research universities and industry. The objective is to create stronger working partnerships that lead to greater collaboration, more movement of ideas & technology from academia to industry and to our health delivery systems. The goal is to create an environment that makes Virginia a leader in collaborations, innovation, startups and job creation.
