VA Teen Scientist Selected as One of Twenty "NBCLatino Innovators"

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, will present its second annual list of "NBCLatino Innovators.” In partnership with NBC News and, NBCLatino will profile 20 Hispanic innovators from around the world who have pioneered change in society, science, technology, medicine and the arts. Their inspirational stories will be told through articles, photos and video on through Sunday, October 13.


U.S. BioGENEius Finalist Award Presented to Samantha Marquez in ChicagoIncluded in this prestigious list, along with Pope Francis, actress Eva Longoria and others, is teen scientist Samantha Marquez of Richmond. Samantha represented Virginia Bio and was selected as a top ten finalist at the U.S. National BioGENEius Challenge during the BIO International Convention in Chicago this March.


"This year’s exceptional group of game-changers makes us proud to be Latino, and we are honored to spotlight their significant contributions and accomplishments during Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Chris Peña, executive editor of NBC Latino. "The men and women profiled by our team exemplify the best and brightest in the Hispanic community. By sharing their stories, we hope to enlighten the public about the profound impact they have on our society.”


The "NBCLatino Innovators” series will appear on "TODAY” and "NBC Nightly News.” The affiliates of NBC and Telemundo will be able to provide their audiences with these Innovators stories online and on air. The stories will be rolled out individually throughout the series and the Innovators will be prominently profiled across NBCLatino’s social media platforms.
