During Virginia's first ever Science Festival Week, October 4-11, a number of family-oriented activities have been planned to celebrate the sciences across the Commonwealth.  The Virginia Bio Foundation, the 501c(3) charitable subsidiary of Virginia Bio is playing a big part in the celebration by coordinating 'Beer and Biotech' events' for teachers.

Virginia Bio has obtained the enthusiastic participation of several member companies in regions across Virginia to open their doors to teachers from grades K through 12.   The events are planned on Thursday, October 9, from 4:30 – 6:30.  "Beer and BioTeach"  will host local teachers for cocktails, snacks and discussion about what each business does along with tours of the labs.   Participating companies include:  Engineered Biopharmaceuticals, LifeNet Health, VA Dept. of Consolidate Laboratories, TECHLAB, Novozymes and HemoShear.  We are seeking additional bioscience companies in other areas.  If you're organization is interested in hosting a group of teachers, please contact us.

Many teachers do not have an appreciation of how science is translated to commercial value and to products that help people.  This is the Foundation's first initiative to educate  teachers about the biosciences in Virginia and the exciting real world career possibilities.

We seek your support in raising funds that will support ongoing Foundation programs and staffing so that we can create permanent programs for our teachers and students. In return we will advertise your support in press releases and associated materials for the event.  BioSTEM engagement is important for the vitality of Virginia’s future economy.  All donations are tax deductible.  For more information or to contribute please contact Sherri Halloran.
