Cadence Partners with VEDP and BRCC for Job Starter Program

Cadence and several other local Shenandoah Valley, Virginia-based manufacturers are teaming up with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and Blue Ridge Community College for their new Job Starter training program.  Job Starter is a paid training program that allows potential job candidates the opportunity to receive training and meet local employers during a 3-week period.  Ultimately, this program is intended to help members of the community land a career in the advanced manufacturing industry with the employer of their choice.

“It was a great experience to be part of the team of local employers that helped develop this program with Blue Ridge Community College and VEDP,” said Rachel Brown, Human Resources Manager at Cadence’s Virginia facility.  “I believe Job Starter will be an excellent resource for Shenandoah Valley residents that are interested in having a career in advanced manufacturing.”

Job Starter begins October 25 and runs through November 15.  Careers in the program include, but are not limited to, production associates, machine operators, and manufacturing apprentices.  Other local companies participating in the program are Berry Global, Daikin Applied, Dynamic Aviation, Innovative Refrigeration Systems, McKee Foods, and Provides US.

Plues, Senior Vice President of State Government Affairs & Affiliate Relations at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) released the following statement on the veto of Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (PDAB) legislation in Virginia: “BIO applauds Governor Spanberger’s decision to veto SB 271 and HB 483 — legislation that would have established a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) and imposed arbitrary price controls in Virginia. The Governor’s action recognized an important point: even well-intentioned healthcare policies must be carefully designed to avoid unintended consequences for patients, providers, employers, and Virginia’s innovation economy. “BIO is proud to represent biotechnology companies developing the next generation of life-changing medicines, including many in the Commonwealth. We believe policymakers play a critically important role in helping advance both patient access to treatments and the continued growth of the life sciences sector. “We look forward to working with the Governor’s Administration, the General Assembly, Virginia Bio and other stakeholders to advance practical, patient-centered policy solutions that improve affordability while preserving access to care and the innovation ecosystem patients depend on.”
