Luna Labs Launches 3 Waves Venture Spinout to Commercialize Advanced Vestibular Stimulation Technology

Luna Labs today announced the launch of 3 Waves, Inc. (“3Waves”), a dual-use spinout company that was established to commercialize advanced virtual and mixed reality technologies for defense, commercial simulation, and medical applications.

As part of the spinout, 3Waves and Mayo Clinic executed an exclusive license to support the development of next-generation vestibular stimulation systems designed to enhance human performance in virtual and mixed reality environments. With this collaboration, 3Waves has developed a proprietary vestibular interface platform capable of translating inputs from VR/XR simulators into true physical sensations, creating virtual motion.

“We believe the future of immersive technology is a full sensory coherence between the digital environment and human perception. 3Waves represents a major step towards that future by enabling direct vestibular integration with virtual environments to create virtual motion,” said David Remer, Head of Engineering at 3Waves. “We see this as the missing physiological interface layer that has, in many ways, limited XR adoption for years. We are excited to advance that capability and bring it into commercial markets.”

Luna Labs’ efforts on 3Waves technology is part of a broader strategy that is focused on transitioning high potential technologies into scalable standalone businesses positioned for long term growth. “Starting 3Waves is a great example of the Luna Labs commercialization model. This technology started with Phase I SBIR funding, matured with a Phase III contract and internal resources, and we are now positioning it to stand on its own,” said James Garrett, CEO of Luna Labs.
