Pascal Medical Corporation has raised $3.8 million to push its ClickGel surgical sealant through pivotal large animal testing on the way to human trials. The total combines a $3 million private financing round closed in July with an $800,000 grant from Virginia Catalyst, announced by Governor Abigail Spanberger on July 30, 2026. Pascal will use the funding to complete the large animal validation study and manufacturing scale-up that underpin its Investigational Device Exemption submission to the FDA.
The private round attracted strong investor interest. Pascal initially set out to raise $1.5 million and ultimately closed at twice that amount, with its existing stakeholders joined by new investors.

The combined funding supports a GLP preclinical large animal study already underway at Colorado State University, along with GMP manufacturing scale-up and the company’s modular IDE submission to the FDA.
ClickGel is an injectable, biodegradable hydrogel that seals the dura, the membrane covering the brain and spinal cord, after planned surgical openings or incidental tears.

Justin Smith, M.D., Ph.D., is the Harrison Distinguished Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Vice Chair for Research at the University of Virginia, where he serves as Chief of the Spine Division.
Dr. Boyan is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. She previously chaired the FDA’s Orthopaedic Device Panel, has authored more than 540 peer-reviewed publications, and holds 24 U.S. patents and is the Alice T. and William H. Goodwin, Jr. Chair in Biomedical Engineering at VCU.
